Travellers Beach Resort was founded in 1992 by Winston Wellington. Mr. Wellington, quite the traveler himself, began the hotel as a place where people from around the globe could travel, meet and share their stories. Travellers started as a bar and restaurant with a single cottage. The land; originally wild Jamaican bush, was cleared by Wellington himself, leaving three beautiful sea grape trees that still offer shade to sunbathers and restaurant guests on the beach. Having started from humble beginnings, Travellers has grown tremendously to 60 rooms and a vast array of resort accommodations. Conveniently situated within a 5 minute walk from the Negril town centre, Travellers prime location offers the opportunity to explore Negril to truly get an understanding of Jamaica’s rich culture and heritage.
The Negril Education Environment Trust (N.E.E.T.)
A proud Jamaican, Mr.Wellington started The Negril Education Environment Trust (N.E.E.T.), a non-profit organization based at Travellers Beach Resort. NEET was founded in 2003 to address the country’s need for educational support and resources. Since its inception, N.E.E.T.’s mission and vision have grown.
N.E.E.T.'s Mission
N.E.E.T. is committed to strengthening the social fabric of Jamaica through programs that expand educational access for children and adults, partnerships that address our public and environmental health and events and activities that celebrate Jamaica’s rich heritage. N.E.E.T. achieves its mission through the provision of three programs, Island-wide Book & Computer Distribution, Computer Literacy, and the Medical Mission. N.E.E.T. has donated over 3 million books and thousands of computers to the island of Jamaica and has built seven computer libraries in local schools and communities. N.E.E.T. also offers free adult computer literacy classes.
Legacy
Since July 2011, the resort has continued to flourish under the Wellington family name under Winston’s three sons: Winthrope, Winfield and Wingate Wellington. Operating as a trio, the Wellington brothers look forward to enduring their father’s legacy by offering a culturally rich, genuine experience for all guests.
